Name That Book
Name That Book (NTB) is a Kindergarten – High School year-long event that celebrates and champions literature for young people. The program was started over fifty years ago by Maxine Jackson, a Librarian at River Oaks Elementary. HISD Library Services facilitates the event for the whole district. The program has also been adopted by surrounding Houston school districts and independent schools.
How Name That Book Works
Practice and Contest
The contest is open to K-5th grade students at Memorial Elementary. They are separated into two reading groups - K-2nd and 3rd-5th. We will meet once a week as a group to review books, but students are encouraged to start reading books over Summer Break in anticipation of participating.

More information will become available when we're ready to open registration for next year's team!

Schools have the opportunity to have one team to compete in each level in which they qualified. Three to six students made up a team with one official alternate. A maximum of seven students per team. One student is designated to serve as captain. Each contest consists of five (5) rounds, with each round consisting of five (5) questions. A quotation is read, and each team has 60 seconds to identify the book. The top-scoring team(s) win the competition.
