Pickup & Drop Off

Driving a student to school, or picking up by car at Memorial Elementary?

Let us help you navigate the process. This page has all the details, including:

Remember, students are watching! Your cooperation models respect for school rules, neighbors, and fellow families. Help us keep things safe and organized.

Drop Off & Pickup Times

For morning drop, lineup starts at 7:00 A.M. for a 7:30 A.M. start time

Your student will exit vehicles on the passengers side
Staff and volunteers will be on-hand to help your student out of the vehicles
Students should have backpacks in-hand once you pull into the drop-off loop
Cars can't linger in the drop-off loop, but feel free to park in the neighborhood and walk your student in

For afternoon pickup, lineup begins at 2:30 P.M. for a 3:00 P.M. dismissal

If lining up early, please stay with your vehicle; things move fast!
Have your school-provided hang tag visible
Staff will be on-hand to help escort your student to your vehicle

Traffic Patterns During School Zone Hours

With hundreds of families walking students to campus, some traffic patterns change to keep everyone safe.

If you approach on Arnot Street from the traffic circle, you cannot turn left into campus. Continue straight to join the car line seen in the map.
If you approach from Pickens Street, you cannot turn left to merge into the drop-off line. Please turn right and join the line.

Morning Entrances by Grade Level

The map below shows where your student should enter the school each morning. Having multiple assigned entrances keeps things efficient, so thanks for cooperating.

PreK & Kindergarten (car or walking) enter the Kindergarden wing doors, located on the far end of the drop-off loop
Walking entrance for all grades is by the main office
1st–2nd graders arriving by car enter by the main office via the front drop-off loop
3rd–5th graders and any siblings* arriving by car enter by the black top via the back of campus, via the gate entrance on Byway Street and East Cowen
(Continue straight and take a left on Crestwood Drive to exit the neighborhood, otherwise you'll get stuck behind the lower grade drop-off line!)

* Younger siblings must be able to unbuckle and open/close doors without assistance, otherwise please bring them to the front loop

What to Avoid During Drop Off & Pickup

Merging into the line

Cutting into the line from side streets adds congestion. This delays our neighbors on their morning commute. Those who live near the school know the drill, and they do their part to avoid the area during school zone hours. Please do yours and follow the process.

Using the staff lot

Our campus has limited parking for teachers. The lot by the playground is for staff. Help our teachers arrive on-time and get home to relax not entering the lot during drop-off or pickup.

Letting students out in traffic

Having students get out of cars into traffic is a major safety concern. Please only let students out at their designated entrance, or while parked along a side street.

Unsafe or disruptive driving

Memorial is surrounded by incredibly supportive and generous neighbors. Be courteous and respectful; please drive slowly, don't block driveways, and follow the proper traffic flow for drop-offs and pick-ups.

No matter how rushed things feel, please come to a complete stop before having your child exit your vehicle.
